Richard J. Wirth, JD, LL.M., is US head of legal and general counsel (GC). His responsibilities include oversight of the law and regulatory compliance department, management of the Legal team, securities and real estate, and ultimately all corporate legal, regulatory, and litigation matters impacting the organization. He is a member of the Aegon Asset Management US Executive Committee. Prior to his current role, Richard was GC for Transamerica's legacy Individual Savings and Retirement organization, where he oversaw the individual annuity and mutual fund lines of business. Prior to joining Transamerica, he held various roles of responsibility within several major life insurance companies and was responsible for diverse practice areas including annuities, compliance, international, intellectual property, life insurance, mutual funds, transactions and outsourcing. Richard is a frequent speaker and program committee leader at industry conferences, has published articles in law reviews and trade publications, and was a senior adjunct professor of law at Western New England University. Richard has 36 years of industry experience and has been with the firm and its affiliates since 2012. He received his BA in psychology from Binghamton University, his LL.M. in insurance law from the University of Connecticut, and his JD from Cardozo School of Law. Richard has earned the insurance industry designation of Chartered Life Underwriter® (CLU®), Chartered Financial Consultant® (ChFC®), Fellow, Life Management Institute (FLMI), Associate-Insurance Regulatory Compliance (AIRC), Associate-Reinsurance Administration (ARA) and CFA Institute Investment Foundation® certificates.
