Aegon AM ranked in top decile globally for responsible investment

ShareAction, through its Asset Owners Disclosure Project, has ranked the world’s largest asset managers for responsible investment. Aegon Asset Management was sixth overall, placing us in the top decile of the 75 managers surveyed. We were also the highest-rated of the specialist fixed income managers surveyed.

Titled 'Point of No Returns', the new report evaluates the world's largest asset managers on a range of ESG-related criteria, including responsible investment governance, climate change, biodiversity and human and labour rights. The questionnaire was developed with input from external experts and mapped to the structure of the recommendations from the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures.

According to ShareAction's report, most asset managers continue to demonstrate a sub-standard approach to responsible investment, with the six largest managers by assets under management appearing in the lowest two ratings bands. However, the report identified clear pockets of best-practice in the industry, with asset managers showing innovative approaches to addressing the challenges at hand.

ShareAction's report highlights a degree of complacency in the broader industry and as a leader we are committed to driving best-practice for the benefit of all.

Commenting, Brunno Maradei, Aegon Asset Management's Global Head of Responsible Investment, said: "We welcome this independent recognition of our long-term commitment to responsible investment, which extends across the full breadth of our active investment capabilities, including fixed income, real assets and equities. We are particularly pleased to be recognised for our innovation in responsible fixed income, where we were the highest-rated specialist manager. The report also highlights a degree of complacency in the broader industry and as a leader we are committed to driving best-practice for the benefit of all."
